【hands-on workshop at Aw Pottery———陶芸体験】

Kneading clay and shaping it to make what you want… We came to the studio to experience hands-on workshop. Most of us were the first time potter but we manage to create our own inspiration pieces with the help of trained stuff there. As we had a 2nd generation Aw Pottery owner, Ms. LeeLang who is based in Seattle, We heard about the history of Aw Pottery and its owner, Mr. Aw. His art pieces were well recognised and sold around this region in 80’s. It became quiet since whole family moved to US though, Ms. LeeLang who is the youngest of 7 siblings is working hard to put energy back in studio again.

手びねりの土いじりは昔の泥団子を思い出す。やはり男子達に比べ、このてのアートは女子組が長けているようで時間を掛けて創作に専念していた。作品は乾燥、色付け、焼きの工程を終え一ヶ月後に手元に来ることになっている。どんな完成品になるのか見てのお楽しみ。タイミング良く二代目オーナーのMs. LeeLangがアメリカから帰省していてAw Potteryの歴史や彼女のお父様のお話も伺うことができた。スタジオには初代の芸術的な作品が幾つも展示されていて、彼の力作は５０年以上経った今でも威厳を放ち、彼の陶芸への思いが伝わってくるよう。
